Neurodivergent Resource Guide Definitions Neurodivergent - Nonmedical term that describes individuals whose brain works differently from others, or from those who are “neurotypical”. This can include people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD), Tourette Syndrome, and more. Neurodiversity - Word to describe the unique differences everyone has with the way their brain works. Neurodiverse Affirming - Refers to a person/professional (or agency, practice, organization, school) who views Neurodivergence and Neurodiversity as a difference, not a deficit. Someone who is Neurodiverse Affirming honors an individual’s uniqueness and doesn’t try to make them act more “neurotypical.”
