Hi there, I’m Annie!
Seeking help for your mental health can be intimidating and feel stigmatizing. When meeting with clients, I strive to create a safe, comfortable space while being approachable, honest and nonjudgmental. I take a compassionate approach to decrease stress and address barriers in your life. My passion is working with children and women. I also have specific training (and personal experience) to assist individuals facing infertility and maternal mental health. If you are facing transitions in your life, whether that's within relationships, faith, career or parenting, I am here to listen.
As a counselor, I love helping my clients find new coping skills to help them manage their negative feelings surrounding infertility. I do this through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. I have training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and completed The Gottman Level I Marriage Counseling training. My experience as a Parent Educator and Pre-k teacher gave me an understanding of early childhood development and family relationships, which is an area I still love to work in.
I received my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Utah and a Masters of Social Work from Utah State University. Most of my previous work was through the school system. I worked for Salt Lake City School District as a Parent Educator and Pre-Kindergarten teacher and then interned as a School Social Worker for Murray City School District.
I began working as a counselor for Utah Infertility Resource Center as a Masters of Social Work Intern and was officially hired on after I graduated. Going through my own personal experience with infertility has given me a passion to help others work through the difficulties that come with family building.
In addition, having a child with special needs has helped me to see the gap in services available to parents. I understand how this feels. I work with parents in this situation to help reduce stress, and increase connection with your child. If I sound like I might be a fit for you, give me a call and let's talk about what you'd like to address. Therapy is a sacred space and I'd love to walk alongside you.
