Greetings, I’m M’Recia (pronounced like “Teresa” with an M, in case you were wondering). Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.
I am a Master of Social Work (MSW) student intern at Whitney Barrell Counseling. It’s been my dream to work as a therapist since I took my first psychology class in high school. I believe the work done in therapy is one of the most important things a person can do and would be honored to be a part of your journey.
You may be wondering why you should trust a student with such an important process. And, while it’s true that there are benefits to seeing a more seasoned therapist, there are also benefits to seeing a student. I am fresh, eager, open and curious. I love working with people. I am closely mentored and monitored by my clinical supervisor and my MSW program.
I am fascinated by the human race and what makes us tick. You can usually find me with my nose in a book learning all I can about how the world works. I have special interest in attachment, trauma, and neurobiology. I have personal experience with infertility and am one of the founding members of Utah Infertility Resource Center. I am passionate about supporting people on their journey to build a family. I am an adoptive mother and have personal experience navigating non-genetic parenting and loving a child with developmental trauma. Before adopting my oldest son, I worked as a social worker in skilled nursing facilities, home health care, and with at-risk children.
If you think I am a good fit for you, please request an appointment with me. I look forward to meeting you and taking the first step toward healing together.
